Depressive symptoms can make one feel exhausted, worthless, helpless, and hopeless.

Depression is a very common illness and each year about 6.7% US adults experience depressive symptoms. Statistics show that women are more likely than men to experience depressive symptoms.

Depressive Symptoms include but not limited to:

A depressed mood during most of the day, particularly in the morning

        • Fatigue or loss of energy
        • Feelings of worthlessness, guilt, helplessness
        • Impaired concentration and indecisiveness
        • Insomnia (an inability to sleep) or hypersomnia (excessive sleeping)

        • Significant weight loss or weight gain
        • Persistent aches or pains, headaches, cramps, or digestive problems that do not ease even with treatment
        • Persistent sad, anxious, or “empty” feelings

Other illnesses may come on or before depression such as anxiety disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Panic Disorder, and other anxiety symptoms. Depression can also lead to dependence to alcohol and other substances as a form of self-care.
